Cloud Ave. wonders “Is it a Good Idea to Have Ads in Tweets?”.
I think not. At least not in the way that we currently think about ads. So for instance textual ads. They would most likely clutter the interface of twitter.
But.. Twitter is going to have to find a way to monetize their content. They are not currently cash flow positive, and they won’t stay afloat much longer if they don’t move quickly to generate some revenue.
I don’t know what the solution is, but Twitter will have to work with what they have. Luckily, that is an amazing network of streaming information provided by their users. They will need to find a way to datamine and intelligently interpret their content into actionable intelligence on their users. This could potentially be in the form of showing products…
The most functional way to make such a system work would be to give the power to the users. So, if users Tweet about something neat, and they have a lot of followers perhaps they could generate some kind of commission. That way, the more they tweet, and the followers they have, the more they earn. Something vaguely similar to that will most likely be the future for monetizing those socially oriented sites.
