How To Determine BMI

I’m a little bored today. Here’s an article about BMI. This might be something I need to know. Let’s have a look.

How to Determine BMI Step 1 Grab a calculator, pencil and piece of paper.

Gotcha. Let’s see…pencil. I think I saw a Sharpie somewhere in the desk. Yup. Got some paper right here too. Well, it’s a used envelope, good enough. Calculator…MELLY! Where’s the calculator? I can’t hear you! Beside the stapler? Got it.

How to Determine BMI Step 2 Understand that the formula for BMI = weight ÷ (height x height). Weight is represented in kilograms; height is represented in meters.

Hey, I remember this. Weight times height equals something. Or was it length times width? Well, it probably doesn’t matter. It’s something times something equals something, so I’m good so far.

How to Determine BMI Step 3 Determine your weight in kilograms. To do this, divide your weight (in pounds) by 2.2. For example, 150 lbs ÷ 2.2 = 68.2 kilograms. Write this number on your paper.

Divide my weight? I’m liking this already. Wonder what I weigh? Hmmm, let’s approximate a bit. One hundred twenty divided by 2.2 equals…that’s not right. Forgot the decimal. Let’s try this again. One hundred twenty divided by 2 decimal point inserted 2 equals 54.545454 screen ends here. Should I round up or down? Think I’ll go down, less is always better in weighing yourself. Write this number down on your paper. Well, DUH! People that write these things always think you’re an idiot…..

How to Determine BMI Step 4 Determine your height in meters by dividing your height (in inches) by 39.37. Know that there are 12 inches in 1 foot. For example, 64 inches ÷ 39.37 = 1.626 meters.

I’m not sure how tall I am. If I weigh one hundred twenty, I guess I should be about five foot seven. Wow. I didn’t think I was that tall. Know there are 12 inches in a foot. See what I mean? Idiots. Soooo, 57 divided by39.97. Huh? Oops. Gotta make my height into inches, lol! Sixty-eight divided by what? I’ll just use the example. Close enough. Am I supposed to write this down?

How to Determine Step 5 Square your height in meters. In other words, multiply your height times itself. For example: 1.626 meters x 1.626 meters = 2.644 meters. Write this number on your piece of paper.

Cripes. I’m not done yet? Ok, I wrote 2.644 on my paper.

How to Determine BMI Step 6 Divide your answer from number 3 by your answer for number 6. In this example, 68.2 kilograms ÷ 2.644 meters = 25.79. This number represents your BMI

Finally. Divide my answer, well your answer, by my answer on number three. Where the hell did I write number three? Wasn’t that the 45.454545 number? My BMI is .05808. That’s a little light isn’t it? Maybe I divided the wrong way…

Hey would you look at that. Here’s a handy dandy little calculator right in the BMI advertisement. Ok, I guess I was a little off in my calculations. So now I know my BMI. I wish I knew what BMI stands for. There’s the sister again. WHAT? No, I haven’t seen your tax bill. It was in the desk? Oh, crap. Did it look like a big white envelope?
