Russian President Medvedev has proposed reducing the current 12 time zones to a fewer number thus allowing for better commerce and governing. He pointed out that the US and China – other very large countries – “show that it is possible to cope with a smaller time difference”. Currently those people in GMT+12 have only a three-hour window to conduct business and governing with Moscow (GMT+3), and even a lesser-window with Europe.

Mr Medvedev wants expert views on the proposals.
It could be the reason Russia has had so many difficulties in, both, governing and conducting commerce within their borders. It is said changing the time zones would not be that difficult. As easy as it is to change to daylight savings time, so, too, is it believed a time zone change could be incorporated.
Of course, in order to implement such a move timetables with airlines, and othertransportations would have to be corrected. The BIG thing is to make sure everybody knows.
China runs on one time zone (Beijing time) and, now, so does Alaska. Alaska, once, had four time zones, but now runs on one, Alaska time). Although, no new set-number of time zones has been suggested, President Medvedev was serious enough about changing time zones to include the idea in his State of the Nation speech just given.
Why has this idea taken so long to bloom? Pride of the Motherland! Russians have always prided themselves by the vastness and size of their country. Those 12 time zones they have held dear-to-their-heart.
But, now, in a 21st Century world, those 12 time zones are hindering Russians from conducting business from within, as, well, as outside its borders. We can only wait, as, time will tell….
