Interest rates are at an all time low because of the government’s money policy which is designed to spur the economy. For those with good credit a home mortgage can be found for rates often below five percent. For those who want to refinance there has never been a better time to do so. But is it in your best interest to refinance? The general rule of thumb is that when your current interest rate and the one you are going to get by refinancing differ from more than two percent, it is worthwhile. However, there are other considerations. If you plan to stay in your home for more than ten years it may be worthwhile to refinance if the difference is as little as one percent.
