The Internet is a fantastic way to get involved in charities and to see what the charities have to offer and what is currently going on.
A few months ago I joined the Free The Bears Organisation that I have found searching through Google and began sponsoring a young female Black Asiatic Bear. Her name is Sandie and I pay a 6-monthly fee to look after her. Right now she is in a large sanctuary facility in Phnom Pehn in Cambodia. She was caught by poachers in a wire based trap which sliced off her right paw completely. She is now with a group of young females who have accepted her freely and she was recently seen climbing a pole and learning how to function well with only three paws.
I have decided because of this I am going to search the Internet again for a great animal based charity to see who else I can sponsor or find another way of becoming involved.
Yesterday I went to a local mall and out the front of a pet shop were two large pink galah’s. They were sitting there quietly trying to sleep while crowds of people were walking past and children were tapping on the tiny cage. I thought that this was terribly cruel. Outside of my property (house) there is a flock of about twenty pink galah’s that have been living there for years. I decided to buy the birds from the pet store and bring them home. They cost hundreds of dollars each and I thought I could spend it on something personal and silly like my hair or new clothes, but I am glad of my decision to spend it on the birds. I got them home very quickly and put their cage out under a tree were the other galah’s were. Immediately the flock of galah’s surrounded the cage and started talking to them. I opened their cage, they walked out and an older galah walked up to them and led them to food. They started eating the fresh grass shoots and have been completely happy ever since. They are out the front now eating.
A great idea is the OxFam strategy of OxFam Unwrapped. You choose one of the exciting gifts from the Oxfam Unwrapped catalog. A personalized card goes to you or your friend or loved one – it shows how your gift is making a real difference. Your donation turns into a gift for those who need it most. From water jugs to school books to goats, all Oxfam Unwrapped gifts benefit those living in poverty. Someone resigned from work the other day so our employers decided to buy him two chickens and a goat for a family in Africa. He cried so much we never thought he would stop. From now on, I am not going to wrap I am going to purchase these wonderful gifts from OxFam.
