The United States and Canada are blessed with an abundance of natural gas. With all the new finds that have been discovered there may be enough to last at least another eighty years. Now that large shale gas deposits such as the Marcellus Shale have been discovered, all of this gas will enable the United States to reduce foreign oil imports and move away from coal, which is a major contributor to global warming, acid rain and pollution in general.
So, How Many Years Supply Of Natural Gas Does The U.S. Have?
How many years of natural gas supply does the United States have. This question has many answers. It depends on how you figure the available resource base. If you base the years of supply the wells in production and assume that no more will ever be drilled the number drops to about ten years. If you figure in new sources that have not been drilled into yet or are barely being produced, the number jumps to around eighty. If you figure in methane hydrate, which is essentially frozen natural gas trapped at cold ocean depths, the number jumps up to over 9000 years worth.
