Salicylic acid chemical peels are one of the most popular chemical peels for the face and are effective for treating blackheads and whiteheads, improving skin tone and even minimising fine lines and wrinkles. If you have acne, a salicylic acid preparation can be used, as it acts as an exfoliating agent and markedly improves the skin’s appearance. For treatment of acne a preparation with a concentration of 5% or lower is used, for a chemical peel concentrations are higher, between 20% and 30%.

Salicylic acid used as a chemical peel is generally well tolerated and causes less inflammation of the skin than other types of peel due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is also soluble in lipids so is particularly effective for those with acne as it is better at penetrating oily skin to reach the pores where it can be effective.
