The 6th Asian Women’s Film Festival, New Delhi Organized by the International Association of Women in Radio and Television to mark celebration of the works of women filmmakers concluded on 8th march 2010.The 6th edition of Festival Opened on March 7th with Nina Sabnani’s The Stitches Speak.The three day Festival aimed to screen films made in the last two years, reflecting contemporary concerns and fresh energies. There was also a special section for student films.
Festival Theme: The theme of the 6th Asian Women’s Film Festival ‘Breaking Boundaries: Shared Spaces’highlighted the concern.The selection of films reflected how women as ‘film makers and/or as protagonists’ negotiate, resist or document political, social, cultural, environmental, educational or economic issues.
Film Package: The film package was vibrant and representative of the country, content and form.The Stitches Speak , I Wonder, Supermen of Malegaon , Rock Heart Beijing , Virgin, Bahar , Last Rites, How green was my Valley, Afghan Girls can Kick and A Small Dream Highlighted the cause of event The Festival also focussed for special section of student films.
Seminars: The International Association of Women inRadio and Television ; the Festival organizing body conducted seminars on – (1) Women & the Public Space (2) Caught in a Madding Mass Media. Speakers, academics, media professionals and students took active Participation.6th Asian Women’s Film Festival 2010 marked as an occasion that aimed to provide an intimate atmosphere for interaction enriched with dialogues on gender concerns and changing approaches to documentaries.
Participating Nations:Films from Australia, Algeria, Bangladesh, France, India, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Norway, Pakistan, South Korea and Sri Lanka with a special focus on a filmmaker Nilita Vachani from New York made to this year’s festival.Around 150 films from above Nations list applied for selection, however only 24 films made to the Final screening lineup.
IAWRT: The International Association of Women in Radio and Television is a not-for-profit professional organization of women working in electronic and allied media, which organizes conferences, film festivals and other allied activities. It also offers scholarships for professional advancement, grants for research and projects.
