15K for plaques

The Tenderloin district got a $15,000 grant to design and install plaques on buildings marking the historical significance of the buildings.

Mayor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday announced that The City is granting the money to the Uptown Tenderloin Historic District to install the National Register of Historic Places plaques that tell the building’s history. Plaques have been ordered for 73 of the 380 buildings in the historic district.

The Uptown Tenderloin Historic District comprises 33 blocks with architectural and cultural significance. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in February 2009.
