Being a parent is always a challenge. These are little lives put in your hands to raise and take care of, and that can be a lot to handle sometimes. Once your child hits the age of thirteen, you will see that you should have believed your parents when they told you how much trouble you were as a teenager. At times you are probably going to be surprised that this is even your child you are dealing with because they will be so different.
A lot of parents lose their relationship with their child once they hit their teens. This could be for a number of reasons but parents need to remember not to feel bad if this happens. There are so many different experiences they are going through and you must be there to support them no matter what. To build a teen relationship with your child you should always be there to talk to them and figure out what is bothering them.
This is the time in their lives when they are going through puberty and a lot of the time even they do not know what they are feeling or why. You do want to get along with your child and be friendly with them, but never let them forget that you are their parent first and foremost. They may seem like constant brats but have some understanding and remember how hard their life seems in their eyes right now. Try to take it easy on your child when they are in their teens.
You always need to have forgiveness when you have children in their teens. You can still put your foot down and lay the law for the home, but you also need to be forgiving. They are going to probably make the most significant mistakes while they are going through their teenage years but they are also going to learn from these mistakes. You need to be there to guide them and help them pick themselves back up when they fall.
To have a good teen relationship with your child, you need to give them space but also guard them. All this is going to end up doing anyway is causing them to rebel against you. If you do they are just going to end up rebelling and probably doing much worse things. However, you should let them know that you are always there if they need someone to talk to no matter what it may be about.
