Halloween has become more of a fashion show for creative character costumes rather than the night when the spirits roamed the Earth, people hid in fear and wore scary costumes to scare away the spirits. From much loved Disney characters to the gangster costume, the sky’s the limit in terms of the costumes you see for Halloween.

The most popular costumes are probably superhero costumes with the kids and anything sexy for adults. Of course, there are many more sexy outfits available for women than there are for women but there are some pretty good ones out there for men as well. In fact, the popular gangster costume of the 1920’s and 1930’s really suits some men and since women really like bad boys, there’s nothing like a cool gangster costume that says “I’m a bad boy with class.”

The gangster costume may be a bit of fun, but history shows that these were ruthless people and it may not be wise to take on too many of their character traits. However, we shall overlook historical accuracy in light of the fact that it is Halloween and it’s all about having a bit of fun. There are many more sexy options available for the ladies than there are the gentlemen. With short, pin stripe dresses, a fedora and the absolutely mandatory gun, there’s nothing that says dangerous quite like being a lady gangster.

Also,  if you don’t want to wear a gangster costume, you can always don a flapper costume to match your significant other who has decided to be Al Capone for the evening. That same period was the time when the flapper girls were in full swing. They are considered to be the beginning of female emancipation as that was the first time the corset had been renounced. The dresses were obscenely short for the time, straight cut and didn’t fit a mold that men thought women needed to look like. They did everything that was against the proper rules of society with as much scorn as they could muster, including smoking in public, drinking alcohol, dancing to jazz and even treating sex as casual.

So, ladies, if you want to be the perfect complement to your significant other and his gangster costume, all you need to do is pick up a nice flapper dress, a headpiece and a feather boa and you’ll be all set to go. Don’t forget to carry a small gun because a girl has to protect herself as well.
