I’ve been using the ScanGauge ii for a bit more than a month. I’m very pleased I finally decided to gave in and buy it, particularly since it easily paid for itself in the first three weeks I had been using it.
My 2001 Accord has had its NEEDS MAINTENANCE light on for a couple years and the fix (a new rear exhaust sensor) would be about two hundred bucks installed. I attached the ScanGauge ii and cleared the code in order to see if it might come back. In a thousand miles since then, it has not.

Initially I justified getting the ScanGauge ii because over the long term, I could adjust my driving habits for better fuel economy, saving me some cash. The instantaneous gas economy and throttle percentage indicators have helped me to accomplish this. I’m now getting more than the EPA estimated fuel economy on my car. EPA city: 20 Highway: 27 Combined: 23.
Not only does it give better fuel economy, the ScanGauge also has several additional sensors. Just about anything your car’s computer knows, this can tell you.

It also provides error codes that can easily be referenced on the internet, allowing you to figure out and repair your own problems instead of taking it to a mechanic who will probably charge you a fee simply to plug it in.
I like the “gauge” readouts and also the wide range of information it provides. I think it’s a very helpful product. Based on fuel savings alone, for most users it can very likely pay for itself in about 6 months of typical driving.
