The name comes from Chinese 猪猪 zhū zhū, meaning “little pig.”
Called Go Go Hamsters in the UK, Zhu Zhu Pets in the U.S. is a line of cute little “Robotic Hamsters.”
Zhu Pets come in 9 different characters, named Patches, Chunk, PipSqueak, Mr. Squiggles, Num Nums, Scoodles, Jilly, Nugget, and Winkie. Various accessories can be purchased for creating customized hamster habitats.
The new characters, expanding from the first nine: Rocky, Moo, Spottie, Tex, Roxie, Ryder, Pax, Kingston, Yo-Yo, Fluffy(who is a bunny), Cappuccino, Peachy, Jinx, Boo, Nutters, Butters, Stinker, Zu Zu, Dezel, Bamboo, Hank, Snowball, Captain Zhu, Pinkie, Carly, Rocco, and Sweetie(another Bunny).
A new commercial was shot to advertise the new Zhu Zhu Pets. As of this, the number of Zhu Zhu Pets have increased 36 due to the craze.
Many retailers such as Wal-Mart and Toys R Us received massive shipments of Zhu Zhu Pets just prior to last Christmas Day, thus driving the price of these toys down to less than $12 on some online stores.
Currently, Zhu Zhu Pets in certain U.S. retail stores, typically, sell for around $10.00 (USD) a piece..uh-uh…a pet. ![]()
