First off is the SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler which is kind of strange because it is not an air conditioner at all, it’s an air cooler.

This unit works well if you live in a dry climate because it uses evaporation for cooling.
What happens is the unit sucks in air through a wick that is saturated with water, in doing so some water in the wick evaporates into the air thus lowering the temperature of the air as it leaves the unit. This is called a endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat). Remember this is a cooler not an air conditioner so it will be alot cheaper to operate as it will use much less energy.

When the weather is not an issue this unit can be used as an humidifier or just a fan. If you live in an area of high humidity I would pass on this one as it will not be as effective.

Next up is the EdgeStar 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Dual Hose.                                                                                                                                                                                          

This unit is designed for rooms in the 400-525 sq.ft. range. It is also an environmental friendly unit as it meets the RoHS standards. If you dont know what that means it stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. Basically restricting the amount of lead, mercury, and cadmium in electronic and electrical equipment which is good for all of us and the environment. I give it high marks just for this.

Overall this unit is a good combination of cooling power, quality, and style for the larger room. The AP14000W is designed with more durable internal components so to last longer and work in more rigorous conditions.

This unit can be used year round as it is a air conditioner, dehumidifier, and fan.

Now to the DeLonghi PAC C120 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner.

At 12,000 btu’s this unit will not perform as well as the unit above, but will still cool a good sized room. Transportability is made easy with the built in side carry handles. The LCD display makes using the controls effortless.

With it’s high-efficiency compressor and other components including the 24 hour programmable timer this unit boosts energy savings. Three fan speeds plus an automatic fan function makes getting to your personal comfort level a snap.

The Delonghi PAC C120 Portable Air Conditioner also has a dehumidifying mode for when it’s time to remove excess moisture from the air. Also fan only if you want to move the air without cooling to save on the power bill.

Included with this unit is a window bracket for window-mounting and a remote with large LCD display.

I give this unit a rating on par with the EdgeStar.

With only 36 db when at the low cool setting this unit is very quiet. The controls also have the dehumidify and fan only modes.

The remote control is also fully featured and has an LCD display, so control of all the functions are at your fingertips from anywhere in the room.

You will also get the window adapter kit and flexible exhaust hose to vent the warm air outside.

This unit gets a rating close to the above two, but just under.

With a 8000 btu rating the room size for this unit is around 225 sq.ft. tops. This unit also meets the RoHS standards for which I give a higher mark all around just for complying to this standard.

The adjustable 24 hour timer is also great for energy savings.

The fan is of the 3 speed design and the controls also have the dehumidifying function.

This unit is a good buy comparing the cost to features. This is the least expensive air conditioner unit in this review it is also the lightest, not counting the air cooler.
