Getting To Know Your Floor Furnace

Share |

A floor furnace is a type of heater that warms your room from the floor up instead of warming the air space around you. In this article, we will take a closer look on how floor heaters function as opposed to the more conventional convection heaters.

The two types of floor heaters

Floor heaters or radiant heaters have two types – the electric and the hydronic heater. The electric heater refers to the heater that uses electricity to generate the heat. They are very quick to be up in temperature and can rise to the desired temperature with in thirty to sixty minutes. On the other hand, hydronic heaters are heaters that uses water to warm the area that you want. They are predominantly used to warm large areas because while they are very slow to get to the temperature that you want them to be in, they are also very slow to lose the warmth that you induced.

No fan, no problem

The main advantage of using radiant floor heaters is that there are no fans blowing around the room. Heaters that use fans to warm a room rely on the warm air to be distributed around in order to achieve the desired temperature. This poses several problems for its uses. The firs and most obvious problem is that the fans that distribute warm air across the room will inevitably spread pollen, dust and other allergens around the room. For people who have asthma or any type of allergy,  this is a big no-no. Another problem that is common with this type of heating is that the room is more susceptible to local hotspots – meaning one place is warmer than the others. This is brought about by the warm air failing to move to another part of your room. As you may have observed, the warmest place when you use this type of heating machine is the ceiling.

These two problems that have when using fan based heaters can be avoided by using radiant heaters. Radiant heaters have no fans so it means that the dust and allergens will not be spread around your room. Also, because radiant heaters warm the room by transferring the heat from the floor to the other objects, you can be assured of an evenly warm room.

Size does matter

Another thing, the size of the room also plays a big role on why you should pick radiant heaters over other types of heaters. This is because no matter what size of your room, you can be assured that radiant heaters can get the job done. Just be sure that the room size will not exceed the 150 square meter range.

So there you have it, the three points to help you know more about this topic. I hope that these three points have opened your eyes on why radiant heat flooring is the best floor furnace that you can choose.
