Having a basketball hoop at home ready for anyone in the family to go and throw a few hoops is a great idea. It provides a wonderful opportunity to get the whole family together for some outdoor fun. With a basketball hoop right outside, you and your kids can get off the couch and have a bit of friendly competition.

A favorite spot to mount a basketball hoop is over the garage doors. It is an easy place to mount it, usually it is an obstruction free area and the the driveway can double as the court. Of course please take into consideration that the door might get a bit dented in the process if there are too many balls that run astray and bang off the door.

You can install the basketball hoop anywhere that you choose that is going to be obstruction free and where the ball can be dribbled. Grassy areas will not work well, and it is strongly recommended that a solid surface area under the hoop is available. A basket ball will not bounce on a grassy surface.

You also need to make sure for safety’s sake that there are no power lines that the basketball could hit and pull down, and there are no windows near by that can potentially shatter from a run away ball. Other safety considerations include metal fences near by that someone playing basketball could collide with, and other obstructions that pose a threat to safety.
