“The VW Beetle of Computing” 2010-05-05
By K. Parmalee (Atlanta GA USA)
I don’t exaggerate when I say this device is the VW Beetle (or Model T for those of advanced youth) of computing. Sure, you can carry around a netbook like the Asus Eee, but the Revo does exactly what an internet-enabled PC needs to do.

It replaces a self-assembled PC I built for gaming that had five cooling fans and sounded like a jet on taxi. The Revo, by comparison, works with ninja-like stealth, though the fan surges to a cat purr upon startup. The missus loves the new-found quiet, and I can now hear her sweet nothings in my ear.

Because I game almost exclusively on consoles now, I don’t miss the additional capability.

I actually bought two, one as a gift, but the recipient preferred my old gaming PC – which I call Tokyo because it’s lit up as hell and twice as noisy.

So now, I have an additional one to use as a media pc.

I don’t think I can add to the list of good points that so many others have more eloquently described.

It does need an additional GB of RAM to achieve acceptable performance with Farmville – and big farms with lots of animals, etc. will run quite slowly. My farm is more hobby-size and plays just fine.

Some of my games that require a CD in the drive will not work yet – for obvious reasons. I would like to figure out how to make a thumb drive act in the role of a CD-ROM and I’ll post that info when I make it work.

In short, for those who found frustration after buying the early Java-based nettops back in the late ’90s, maybe it’s time to take another look.

“Great HTPC for the money” 2010-04-30
By K.C.
For the last couple of weeks I’d been torn between getting a media extender or an HTPC. Then I started reading the reviews on this little box. I got it today from Amazon (great service). I purchased a 2GB stick of RAM and immediately installed Windows 7 64bit on it. It works great, no frame drops while watching 720 or 1080 videos, 5.1 sound worked out of the box after I installed the drivers from Nvidia for the HD Audio through HDMI. Powerful enough for everyday tasks but that will not be the primary use here. Just throw VLC and you can watch almost any video format file with no problem at all. Only complain is that there’s no Wifi included but has an ethernet port. Couldn’t ask for more for the price. Small, quiet, runs on little power and after installing Flash 10.1 RC2 youtube HD videos and Hulu are running great. No complains at all, an absolute bargain and beats the hell out of a media extender.

“I don t think you can do better for 200 bucks!” 2010-04-29
By Paul St John (New York)
Well, I was looking to buy an inexpensive PC that worked well, and this fit the bill. I’m not into gaming or anything so I don t know much about that. I mostly use it for surfing the web, and word-processing. It works great for my purposes. I love the thing.. It takes up no room at all.. It is amazing to me all the thing contained in this little box, and it is set up, so that you build it up as much as you want.

and it came with all the programs that I need. Very happy with it…

“(HTPC + XBMC) + Media Server = Hours of couch potatoing” 2010-04-23
By A Pimp named Ben
I’ve bought two this year. One acts as a multimedia server with plenty of external hard drives attached and is on 24/7. The other one is used as a HTPC booting XBMC from an SD card and is connected to the tv and home teather in order to stream movies, tv shows and music.

If you want the Revo 1600 as a HTPC or basic Windows machine, its a great option. just dont expect it to perform great when several programs are loaded into memory at the same time. It also helps decrease dependency on cds (it lacks a cd-drive). who uses those anymore? The lack of wifi can be solved with a cheap dongle, but dont expect it to stream hi def movies wirelessly. Its just a cheap small headless computer that satisfies basic computing needs.

Pros:

- Extremely small footprint.

- Lots of USBs

- Energy efficient

- Can stream and handle High Definition video.

- Gigabit ethernet.

Cons:

- The power button feels clumsy and cheap.

- Processor gets too hot, even when idling.

“Awesome” 2010-04-15
By Stover227 (Surprise, AZ USA)
Not using this as my main computer, but it does everything I need it to do. It is fast, small and quiet. I removed all the excess programs and games as others have suggested. I have told everyone I know about it. I recomend it and would purchase it again.
