Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20th, 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island.
I like Lovecraft’s work and I always have, since I read The Whisperer in Darkness when I was a kid.
That was the first time I had seen horror mixed with science fiction.
It reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe, but darker and more twisted.
Of course Lovecraft’s most famous creation is
H. P. Lovecraft has inspired many artists from writers like Stephen King and Neil Gaiman, to film directors like John Carpenter and Guillermo Del Toro.
Metallica recorded a song inspired by Lovecraft’s 1928 short story, “The Call of Cthulhu,” titled “The Call of Ktulu,” and a song based on the 1936 novella, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, titled “The Thing That Should Not Be,”.
Black Sabbath’s “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” was based on Lovecraft’s 1919 short story, “Beyond the Wall of Sleep.”
Blue Öyster Cult’s 1988 concept album Imaginos was based on the Cthulhu Mythos.
