Fein WSG 10-115 T Tip Start 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder Review
An angle grinder, also known as a side grinder, is a handheld power tool used for cutting, grinding and polishing. The motor drives a geared head mounted at a right-angle on which is mounted an abrasive disc that can be replaced when worn. Angle grinders typically have an adjustable guard and a side-handle for two-handed operation.
Angle grinders are used for removing excess material from a piece or simply cutting metal into a pieces. There are many different kinds of discs that are used for various materials and tasks, such as cut-off discs (diamond blade), abrasive grinding discs, grinding stones, sanding discs, wire brush wheels and polishing pads.
I needed a larger grinder to handle some of the larger projects I have to work on. I selected the Fein WSG 10-115 T Tip Start 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder because the Fein company has an excellent reputation.
One of the main reasons I chose this model is the grinder has a switchless tip start operating system with auto stop which provides needed safety in case of an emergency. The disc slows down as soon as the touch pads are released. This is an extremely safe grinder for all of those places where safety is a top priority.
The system is designed to prevent accidental activation – an easy tap on 2 switchpads on the unit is all it takes and the angle grinder starts up gradually, without jolts. As you work, only one of the TipStart switchpads needs to be kept pressed.
This angle grinder is also equipped with EBS –Electrical Brake System. Instead of using a mechanical brake, which has a brake shoe that can gum up, FEIN’s electrical brake system guarantees a reliable braking effect. Once the disk is stopped, the disk remains clamped securely in place.
An added safety feature that is on all of the new Fein angle grinders is the accidental restart lockout which alleviates any kickback if your angle grinder gets caught in a piece of steel.
This angle grinder has a nice comfortable shape to it, which is important when you are spending long hours on grinding and cutting steel.
The grinder has a very powerful motor which is characteristic of Fein products – I like their products because they are well built and last a long time. The company has been in business for over 140 years, so they must be doing something right!
I have used this product for a few months and several times the built-in safety features have saved me from getting cut or burned. These safety features are worth the price of the tool, believe me.
