Jaguar Cars Ltd., a name synonymous to quality luxury and performance cars, started out with humble beginnings as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. Motorcycle enthusiasts Sir William Lyons and William Walmsley founded the company in Coventry, England. But when 1945 came, Swallow Sidecar was changed to Jaguar, because the company’s old acronym became associated with the “SS” of Nazi Germany.
It was when Jaguar was sold to Rubery Owen that sports cars began to be produced, making the brand an international name that stood for luxury and speed. In 1949, Jaguar sales reached new heights, when a number of cutting-edge sports cars were unveiled, including the famous Jaguar XK120, the precursor to the Jaguar XK140, Jaguar XK150, and the legendary Jaguar E Type.
Jaguar has since then expanded to include saloon sedan cars that brings the same luxury and class that the sports cars do. There was success met when the Mark 1, Mark 2, XJ6 and XJ12 were introduced, becoming critically acclaimed for, not just the engineering, handling, and performance, but also for their style, and price-to-value ratio.
When Jaguar began to race in the 1950s, the company began to successfully sell to race car drivers because of its reputation of creating finely-engineered and powerful sports cars. Jaguar and their drivers became victorious in many races with the Jaguar C-Type, which made the demand for Jaguar cars increase, not just in the United Kingdom, but worldwide. Its racing heritage still exists today, despite Jaguar pulling away from racing since 2004.
Jaguar continues to evolve with the times with its hybrid executive sedan, currently in development in conjunction with Caparo. With Jaguar sales remaining strong as one of the highest among luxury car brands, Jaguar still lives up to Sir William Lyons’ creed, of bringing more value for the money. This is great news for everyone who is on the hunt for Jaguar deals.
