Nick Persons (Ice Cube), the main protagonist, is a bachelor who specializes in sports collectibles. He finds himself attracted to the bright, stunning Suzanne Kingston (Nia Long), until he realizes that she has two children: a daughter, Lindsey (Aleisha Allen) and a son, Kevin (Philip Bolden). Lindsey is eleven years old and Kevin is seven. They strongly believe that the only man suitable for Suzanne is their estranged father, Frank Kingston (Henry Simmons), whom they haven’t seen in years. Nick’s best friends are the co-owner of his store, Marty (Jay Mohr), and a Satchel Paige bobblehead (voiced by Tracy Morgan), who talks to Nick through his conscience.
