Coronation Street was first broadcast on 9 December 1960, made by Granada Television (now ITV Studios) and broadcast in all regions of ITV almost throughout its existence. Since first airing it has been known to be one of the most financially lucrative programs on commercial television, underpinning the successes of its broadcaster ITV.
