Composting is creating your own fertilizer using natural ingredients, stirring occasionally and just allowing some time for the ingredients to process. Start in the fall of the year and you will have good compost by spring. It actually can take as little as two months if you keep it wet and turn it once a week.
First you have to decide where to keep the compost and in what type of container. You can buy expensive containers that you can roll, you can use a garbage can for composting or you can also use wood and wire to make your own bin. Then you will need a pitch fork to stir the compost. A sunny location will shorten the time for your material to turn into compost
