User Review:
I have this unit for about four years now. It has been used mostly for car navigation (N.America cities maps) and weekend hikes and trail MTB. Even though it’s meant for outdoor activities, but it has kept me from being lost in major Japanese cities and rural areas (Japan map). What really surprised me is that how well it tracks Shanghai Maglev when it was traveling at its top speed at 271 miles per hour (youtube keyword:shanghai maglev garmin 60csx)
I’m being a geek and was thinking to replace it with newer model. But after a brief search on the net, apparently 60csx has a better screen than the newer models when viewing under the sun. Plus the new features on the newer models aren’t that much different than 60csx. In some ways, 60csx is better than the newer models. I just need to upgrade the 2gb micro SD (paid $50 four years ago, now it’s like $7 lol). Amazon’s 550+ reviews with 4.5 stars is a true reflection of this Garmin Hall of Frame.

Great for paragliding, mapping is plenty accurate and display is easy to see strapped to my leg. The programmable info screen is very helpful and allows you to hide info that you don’t need or even up size the really important stuff. The accuracy of the vario is not fast enough to replace a good vario and there is no audio. the export is the only thing that takes a bit of work if you are uploading to Leonardo you will need an separate program to export to ICG (the only format that Leonardo accepts as it is hard to fake). The easy solution is to use a program like gps dump but it would have been nice to have that format integrated into garmin’s software. My only other complaint is the maps, you’ll need to buy maps if you want to use this and really see much detail. For flying the topo maps are really handy. Just remember to add around $100 to the cost of this unit to get them. I would also recommend a screen protector, its not the easiest screen to scratch but it isn’t all that hard either, I’ve got a few pretty good rubs which makes me really wish I had spent a few extra bucks. All in all I really like this unit and I’ve been using it for a few years now with no issues.
