Clutter everywhere. That might be the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing at night if you don’t learn about organizing your home. Most people tend to put off organizing for the next day, and the next, and the next until it they forget about it. This is very common, even I did this. This is also the reason why people accidentally become hoarders without meaning to; they’re too lazy to throw unneeded things out of the house. I recently decided to Declutter My House, and it was such a good feeling. I would like to share some tips on how I did it:
Dedicate a few minutes every day to spend decluttering. It may be as short as five minutes or as long as 20 minutes. Just make sure that it fits to your everyday schedule so you won’t have any excuse not to do it. Start with one area a day, until that whole area is fully decluttered before moving on to the next area. You might also want to do this systematically. Start from downstairs working up, or from the left part of the house to the right. You might also want to start with the little things first. You can begin by throwing away cards, or pens that wouldn’t write anymore or paper cups that have been in the living room for ages. And papers! Oh, it’s really fascinating how fast they go out of control. You see bills from three months ago, receipts, flyers and etc. Please do yourself and get rid of them. If you think you’ll need them as reference, you’re wrong. They’re nothing but a mess so THROW THEM OUT. I also developed a method for deciding which things to throw out of the house. Clothes that has not been worn in five months get to be donated, things not used in a year gets to be either thrown out or recycled and broken things left unfixed for two months is thrown away. How often you use things as a basis of throwing them out is one good technique in making a decision.
The usual reason why it’s difficult for us to throw things away is because we tend to hold on to them. We may be afraid that we are going to need it in the future, or we may remember special memories whenever we see certain things. One thing I learned when I started the habit of decluttering is that you have to make a stand. I don’t think when I throw something away. I get rid of them if they are creating a mess, and it has not disappointed me so far. I hope that you too would find the time and to declutter around your house so that you too, would find how rewarding it is.
