Vampire Weekend sued by model Kirsten Kennis . The model Ann Kirsten Kennis filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming the band and photographer Tod Brody used her image without her permission.
Released earlier this year, the artwork for the New York group’s second LP features a photo of Kirsten Kennis from 1983, which was also used to spearhead a marketing campaign to promote the album.
When we asked Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig about the woman on the cover of Contra last October, he said, “I don’t want to give away all the details about the photo just yet, but I learned that she’s now living in Malibu.”
Now as TMZ reports, Kennis filed a lawsuit on Wednesday (July 14) with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming that the signature on the release form – which would allow the band to use the image – was forged.

She says that the photo was taken around 1983, when she was working as “a high-fashion model under contract with prestigious agencies in New York City.” model Kirsten Kennis, the woman who appears on the cover of Vampire Weekend’s most recent album “Contra,” is suing the band to the tune of $2 million.
Going on to explain she had no idea the photograph, which was taken by Tod Brody, was being used on the album cover, she added that she blamed the band for not verifying the legitimacy of her signature on the release.
She says she never gave the band permission to use her image, which was snapped back in early ’80s. Ann Kirsten Kennis claims her signature was forged on the photo release.
Apparently, Kennis filed the lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court yesterday and, though a photo release form clearing the shot does exist, she claims the signature on the document is a forgery.
Vampire Weekend declined to comment on the matter at this time.
