Canister Vacuum Cleaner – A Straightforward Guide

One of the biggest benefits of a canister vacuum cleaner is in its size and weight. Knowing which model to go for is another different thing though. How do you choose the right vacuum? What things should you consider?

Knowing which type of floor you wish to clean is an important first step to choose the right vacuum. Bare floor tool type of canister lets you clean smooth surfaces, but it is not as suitable for rugs and carpets. There are different tools for rugs and carpets.

For cleaning natural fibers such as grass, sisal, cotton and others, turbo power nozzle with soft bristles can help. Canister vacuum with turbo type tool should be used for scatter rugs and low pile wall-to-wall carpeting. Most canister models come with the same attachment tools, namely an upholstery tool, a dusting tool and a crevice tool. Those are tools that you’ll likely need, no matter which model you plan to acquire.

Next comes the second factor. Ease of use. You don’t want a cutting-edge vacuum that seems great but not so intuitive to use. It’s true that new appliance may require slight learning curve. But remember that once you are familiar with it, you can work more efficiently. So the choice is yours whether you can afford a more sophisticated or conventional model.

If you really want to get into details, there are at least a dozen more factors to consider upfront. Just as an example, some people are stickler with certain brand over another. Perhaps that helps in narrowing down choices. Quality and strength are something you should not compromise. Do you prefer bag or bagless model? How about the noise level? Is capacity important?

That’s not all. Some features are nice to have. They let you work more effectively. Retractable cord is an example. Some models come with various indicators that show you when to change the bag or filter. I know people who insist on these features. Not that they are utmost important, but again, they are nice to have. Some people may get used to it that they find a vacuum without any of those features crippled in some ways. This is why I always tell people there is no such thing as the best vacuum cleaner.

When it comes to price, expect to pay slightly more than an upright vacuum cleaner of similar quality. Don’t let that stop you though, as canister vacuum is often easier to maneuver. Another benefit is that, it usually doesn’t take more than four cubic feet of storage space. That is a big plus for people with tight space.

Fortunately, you can use the Internet to do research at your own pace and look through different models thoroughly before you purchase. My last advice is this. While it can be costly, quality vacuum will last for many years and even decades.
