It was one of those lucky accidents. I’d forgotten my password and couldn’t be bothered to go through the usual insanity, so created a new account using a different name.
As I’d already used One email account for the forgotten password, I used a different email account for user Two. This fooled the site into thinking there were two different people.
I realised the significance of this when I heard users complaining about trying to Stumble or Reddit their work. As far as the sites were concerned, they were spamming.
Of course, if One is thumbing up the work of Two such a response would not occur. Hence, I realised the importance of different Nicks for each site, and each networking site.
Many people chose a name and carry it all over the ‘Net. If they are HappyClam on Delphiforum they are HappyClam on Hotmail, HappyClam on Triond, and HappyClam on Reddit. So when HappyClam decides to vote up an article HappyClam wrote on Triond using Reddit, there’s this big blowback.
Sure, one article by HappyClam, voted on by HappyClam is okay, as long as s/he votes up articles and photos by others. This is sounding like a lot of work.
By creating a totally different Nick on Reddit, using a different email address, Shrimpy can vote up every article by HappyClam. And if Shrimpy posts on Bukisa as Lobsterbreath, s/he can vote up those articles as well.
Hence it suits you to get a goggle of nicks a trailerload of email accounts.
