Delicious Fried Green Tomatoes!

Fried Green Tomatoes

Making fried green tomatoes is one of the easiest and quickest ways to add a side to fried fish, chicken, or pork chops.

How to Find  Green Tomatoes:

Some stores in the south sell green tomatoes, as it is a very popular southern dish. Elsewhere, produce stands sometime sell green tomatoes, and if not perhaps you could request an order from them or a local farmer. Better still, grow your own!

Here’s  How Easy It Is To Make the Best  Fried green Tomatoes You Ever Ate!

Wash several firm green tomatoes and slice thinly. They should be about 1/4 on an inch thick.Slice them even thinner for a crispier product.

Salt the tomatoes, and dip them one slice at a time into a mixture of one part flour to five parts self rising yellow cornmeal mix. For a more seasoned taste, I usually sprinkle a  little of  Mrs. Dash on the slices of tomato. You might prefer another, or just salt.

Let the mealed slices “set” for about ten minutes. Dip them again in the meal mixture one at a time, and tap them slightly on the plate to loosen meal (one at a time.)

Place your tomatoes in a skillet (cast iron is best) with about 1/2 in. or less of hot canola or peanut oil.  DO NOT CROWD. The tomatoes will cook quickly, and you will need to turn them once.

When golden brown, take them out one at a time, and place on a paper towel. Keep the tomatoes in a warm oven until you have finished cooking. Serve hot.
