Rosacea is a chronic skin condition which affects adults from all over the world. Although there are more women who are diagnosed to having this condition, there are men who also have Rosacea. In fact, men tend to suffer from the symptoms more because the breakouts are more severe.
Rosacea breakouts more commonly affect the face although there are times when the eyes and the neck are also afflicted with the skin condition. In the face area, the forehead, nose and chin are more inflamed but the cheeks also become red during the breakouts. Having pink or red cheeks are commonly mistaken for having a sunburn and some people will just brush it off and think that they have red skin because of the heat but in reality, they may already have Rosacea.
The triggers that cause Rosacea as of the moment are still unidentified but researchers are still trying to find a pattern to find out what causes the skin condition. However, they have already noticed that women who are Caucasian, fair skinned and are in their middle years are more vulnerable to this disease.
One of the reasons why the triggers are still not finalized is because the triggers vary from person to person. But it is believed that certain emotions can trigger Rosacea. These emotions are stress, anxiety and fear. There is also a claim that stomach bacteria can cause Rosacea. Do be reminded though that there are not enough evidences to support the claims mentioned above.
Some people mistaken Rosacea for Acne and will not go to a dermatologist immediately when they get breakouts which further delays when they start applying proper rosacea skin care. Instead, they will try to save money and just buy anti acne creams that can be bought over the counter. However, Acne and Rosacea are not the same and using anti acne creams can actually worsen the skin condition. There are cases wherein the breakouts become more frequent because of the wrong use of products.
If you are already diagnosed with Rosacea, do seek treatment from a professional dermatologist who specializes in treating Rosacea because there are some dermatologists who do not really know how to treat the skin condition. You might also want to look into good rosacea cosmetics in order to help lessen the appearance of the facial redness! Do remember that there will be treatments made to lessen the irritation of the skin but it is best to have a good skin care routine to lessen the redness and irritation of your skin that may be experienced during a Rosacea outbreak.
