Hypnosis can help reduce muscle discomfort, says a National Institutes of Health panel. Through hypnosis, you can distract yourself from pain. Here’s how to do it.
• Sit in a quiet room. Roll eyes back and up until they feel heavy; close eyes. Silently count to 10, breathing deeply and visualizing a relaxing scene.
• Starting at the head and neck, relax muscles, slowly working down toward the feet. When muscles are all relaxed, count backward from five to zero and open eyes.
Repeat these steps anytime you want to alleviate pain.
