Conversely, the wholesale insurance agent is contracted by the retail agent to coordinate the placement of coverage on their behalf. Both types of agent can perform the same job; however, each have their own distinct benefit. Retail agents have more of a direct relationship with their clients allowing for a smoother transaction.  While wholesale agents often have availability to more difficult to reach markets, allowing them to have a broader scope of service.
