Nestle chocolate chips are the original toll house cookie ingredient. The proprietor of the Toll House Inn was baking chocolate cookies and ran out of baker’s chocolate. Substituting small bites of a semi-sweet chocolate bar from Andrew Nestle, Mrs. Wakefield expected that the chocolate would melt through the cookies. Instead, the cookies came out, studded with these “chocolate chips.” A legend was born!
