What's the story behind the chocolate chip cookie?

Childhood memories often include baking in the kitchen with mom.  One of the favorite recipes to make are chocolate chip cookies.  You probably did not know that the creation of this cookie was an accident.  The tale of the Toll House Cookie sounds legendary, but is a true story.

Nestle chocolate chips are the original toll house cookie ingredient.  The proprietor of the Toll House Inn was baking chocolate cookies and ran out of baker’s chocolate. Substituting small bites of a semi-sweet chocolate bar from Andrew Nestle, Mrs. Wakefield expected that the chocolate would melt through the cookies. Instead, the cookies came out, studded with these “chocolate chips.”  A legend was born!
