Prior to Jennifer Aniston’s R word, the star was explaining her feelings for Barbara Streisand. Regis held up a sequence of photos of Jenifer Aniston remaking several of Barbara’s most celebrated appearances’. Jennifer Aniston’s R word came up when she was explaining her experience with the photo shoot when Regis interrupted by stating “You’re playing dress up.” This interjection by Regis resulted in the pop up of Jennifer Anniston’s R word. “I play dress up, for a living- like a retard,” responded Jennifer Aniston. Reactions to Aniston’s off-handed comment have not been favorable, with groups the Special Olympics even weighing in. “Special Olympics is always disappointed when the R-word is used, especially by someone who is influential to society,” their statement said, according to CNN. Jennifer Aniston has been hitting the talk show circuit pretty hard for the past few days to promote her newest flick, “The Switch” and has had some controversy to deal with along the way. After going to head to head with Bill O’Rielly last week, on theToday Show yesterday, Aniston had to field questions about her former beautician, Maria Gabriela Perez, who was arrested for defrauding dozens of celebs including the former Friends star.
And this morning it was Aniston that caused controversy, saying that she “likes to play dress up, I do it for a living, like a retard.” The remark went by almost unnoticed by the audience and co-hosts, but has sparked anger from disability advocates. A representative for Aniston did not respond to a request for comment on the matter. After Jennifer Aniston R word, there is very strained laughter and visual discomfort from the hosts of the show. Peter Burns, CEO of The Arc, a nonprofit advocate for disabled persons, found it “extraordinarily offensive and inappropriate.”
