Swell Season tour recently has caused a 32-year-old man apparently committed suicide. It was happened last night at the alt-folk group’s concert at a winery in Saratoga, Calif., by jumping onto the stage while they were performing. This is a lousy day for Swell Season. As you know, the Swell Season was playing an outdoor show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga in front of a crowd of about 1,900 when the jump happened Thursday night.

Ironically, Oscar-winning singer-songwriters Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova had just finished the rousing “When Your Mind’s Made Up” when Michael Edward Pickels hit the stage, according to eyewitness reports. Actually, it is the most horrifying concert trend of the year. There are Jumpers at two recent shows. A fan is in critical-but-stable condition after falling 25 feet at a recent Phish concert in New York. And a man committed suicide by jumping from a roof onto the stage at last night’s Swell Season show in San Francisco.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Rick Sung says authorities are treating the death as a suicide. Sung said the man’s identity will not be released. Sung says the man left a friend in the audience around 10 p.m. and soon appeared on a roof that covers the stage. Witnesses say he jumped off the roof and landed on stage near the band’s lead singer, Glen Hansard.

In other sad music news, a guy committed suicide onstage at a Swell Season show. Pitchfork has that story too. Swell Season, for those that don’t know, is the new band led Glen Hansard, a.k.a. that orange haired guy from the movie once. According to Pitchfork, the man jumped from the roof of the building next door, fell three stories, and landed on stage next to Hansard. This is incredibly sad and disturbing news, and my thoughts go out to the anonymous man’s family, as well Hansard.

The Swell Season has since released a statement regarding the event. “The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night,” the statement said. “Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family.” Witnesses of Swell Season tour are saying he left his seat, climbed up and jumped. “At first, we thought it was a dummy (prank of sort) or part of the lighting, but after seeing the horrible shock on Glenn’s face, we realized it was something very serious.”
