The big success stories that seem to have taken all of the newpaper headlines in the world of technology products over recent years have been portable gadgets and personal electronics of various kinds. I am of course talking about things like the Apple iPhone, Blackberry and other smartphones, the ipod and other mp3 players, and that type of thing.

But behind all of this there has also been a quite revolution in our homes, with everything that we do becoming ‘gadgetized’ – meaning that there is a technology product for pretty much everything that we do in our home to make it easier. So what are the best gadgets for the home out of all these thousands of new bit of kit.

Well, of course there is the robotic vaccuum cleaner that can find it’s way around your household and use its rudimentary intelligence to make sure that your whole carpet has been cleaned. That is pretty cool. Another of my favourites is the automatic trash can which works in the same way that those automatic doors work – with an infrared sensor – but this time instead of activating when someone walks towards it the sensor can detect hands reaching towards it, so they open for you when you need them and you don’t even have  to touch the (often a bit dirty) lid.

But some of my favorite household gadgets are in the kitchen. There are loads of great kitchen gadgets out there and the thing that I really love is that they not only save time and make tasks taht you already do much easier, as is the case (or at least should be the case) with other types of gadget for the home, but they can actually increase your repertoire in the kitchen, allowing you to bake bread, make proper cappucino’s, and other things that most people just would not be able to do without the help of a handy little household kitchen gadget.
