Wall clocks are classified as a type of timepiece which are hang or mounted on the wall either in the indoor or outdoor of the house. If used in either of the areas, a person upon seeing will surely look up and check the time. That is the functional purpose of a timepiece. It updates us of the time for our convenience. Without clocks we would be unknowing and late in our school or work responsibilities, overcooking our preparation of food or waking wondering what time is it. Clocks are there to stay with us and its importance in our life should also be reflected in how we take care of it.
When it comes to cleaning it, we should always dust the outside cover of an outdoor clock. Since they are displayed in the outdoors of our home, they are more vulnerable to all the dust and dirt and other effects of seasonal changes. Although they are made to be durable to stand the elements of time, it is much better to hang or mount your clock below a shaded wall rather than to expose it directly to sun, rain or snow. In cleaning the outdoor clock use a smooth cloth and water to clean its cover. A soft bristled brush can be used to clean those areas which cannot be reached using a cloth, like the intricately designed clocks such as those with heavy carvings and wrought ironed designs. Careful attention should be given to more decorative clocks due to the fragility of these items. Lastly, be careful also in using cleaning agents which can remove or damage the wood or metal finish or its paint. Even outdoor clocks that are made of resin have to avoid harsh solutions.
When your clock shows defect in its function and you are concerned about its status, it is much better you refer it to a professional and specialized clockmaker or jeweler. You will certainly give your clock the care and repair that is most appropriate.
