It’s been six weeks already. Six weeks since I’ve been dry, six weeks since I haven’t drank coffee. Oh, by the way, I’m Susan, Susan Alistair. I’ve been on coffee for over twenty years. The black dew was great at the start, it made me hyperactive in the morning, it allowed me to stay late at night if needed and, almost by magic, it drew the exhaustion away. I began to drink two cups per day, and without noticing, two cups turned into ten cups per day. When I took the decision to give up coffee, all my friends made petty remarks, some even wondered if I’m really alright, if you know what I mean. Needless to say, they’re all hooked on coffee the same way I used to be. How I managed to get rid of my addiction was purely by chance, or should I say divine intervention. It happened when I lost the morning bus that took me to work. I asked a friend to drive me, as I don’t have a car, and she accepted. We engaged in a casual discussion and she mentioned that she bought a wheatgrass juicer. My friend, who’s an expert in homeopathic therapy, told me all the benefits of wheatgrass juice and that I absolutely should buy a wheatgrass juicer. I never believed in alternative therapy or plants, that sort of thing, but then she told me how she stopped drinking coffee as she began to drink wheatgrass juice. She told me that coffee was the main cause of severe dementia, and that a coffee drinker is four times more likely to have a heart attack then a non-coffee drinker. What she told me then stayed in my mind, even while I was at work. So, I decided to give it a try. I bought myself a wheatgrass juicer, and ever since, I’ve been coffee free. Now, nesspresso, latté or cappuccino means nothing to me. Not even George Clooney, trying to sell his grinder on TV, doesn’t seem that appealing anymore. So, this is my little secret that I want to share with the world. Drink wheatgrass juice, don’t drink coffee.
