The heating element on impulse sealers will need to be replaced on occasion.  They are fairly reliable but over time the nichrome wire that the element is made of wears out or burns out, making it difficult or impossible to properly seal your bags.  The good news is that is incredibly easy and cheap to replace the heating element.  Just follow the link above for step by step instructions.
