Many people who have watched Paranormal Activity may have been disappointed with how the story ends. But did you know that the director of the movie had shot other endings for the movie. Find out what they are.

Since this is not going to be a movie review, I shall dwell too much on assessing the plot, characters, cinematography and such details. But I guess a gist of the plot would be useful.

Plot
A couple moved into a large house and found themselves disturbed by paranormal activities. They tried to find out what it was and even brought in experts to rid of the ghost or demon, but in vain. As such they had to deal with it themselves. Now, let’s explore the three different endings of the movie.

Movie Ending
The ending shown at the movies was very abrupt, I feel. In the middle of the night, Katie sat up in bed suddenly and stood by the side of the bed near Micah for a couple of hours. Then she walked out of the room and proceeded downstairs. Then her screams could be heard. Micah was awoken by the screams and he ran downstairs. After a couple of minutes, a dead Micah was thrown towards the camera by Katie. She then sniffed at the body and destroyed the camera. This was the version shown at the theatres. I also watched this version on a DVD my husband just bought.

Katie Myers Version
In this version, Katie left the room. Micah ran downstairs at the sound of Katie’s screams. After a couple of minutes, Katie came back with a blood-stained shirt and a knife. Then she sat down on the floor and rocked herself back and forth for a couple of days. There were phonecalls coming into the home and messages left. Subsequently, the police came. Katie snapped out of her trance and was shocked by the presence of the police officers who shot her to death.

Murder/Suicide Version
In this last version, Katie left the room to be followed by Micah. Katie came back to the bedroom with a knife and slit her throat in front of the camera.

Here’s why I think the directors chose the first version even though it is the lousiest, to me. I think the biggest reason is that the movie version allows for a Part 2 of Paranormal Activity (which is coming out soon) and leaves a mystery, a question mark to the audience. More mysterious!

For me, I liked the Katie Myers version. The scene whereby Katie was rocking back and forth for hours as the time fast-forwarded was chilling on its own. It would have set goosebumps on my skin compared to the five second-endings of the movie version. So, there you have it. Which version do you prefer?
