AmCup2013: Newport, R. I. still in the mix

Breaking News, Dec. 15, 2010: As communicated to this writer by Rhode Island officials, Newport, Rhode Island is still in continued dialog with BMW Oracle officials, while the San Francisco plan submitted yesterday for hosting AmCup 2013 is under consideration by Larry Ellison, CEO, Oracle Corp., and his America’s Cup BMW Oracle team of planners. The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) submitted its formal proposal on December 8 for Newport to host the Challenger Series and/or the Final races of the America’s Cup 2013. Infrastructure and engineering design changes to piers and port land have been expedited to accommodate this opportunity should Newport be selected. RIEDC reports this afternoon via email and phone that it is in continued contact with BMW Oracle representatives.
