AVG, found on avg.com, is a free antivirus tool. It has a premium feature, but in most cases the free version is enough. You get live scans and protection with the premium version, but the free version alerts you immediately when you download something sketchy if it is, indeed, a virus. AVG is just one free anti-virus software of many other. Try out a few or read reviews to see which might be the one for you. Regardless, some antivirus program is highly recommended to keep your data safer.

Spybot is completely free and comes with free updates. It can scan your computer for identified spyware (from a database), and it allows you to delete it if you wish. This includes deleting tracking cookies that records, without your permission, what sites you visit and send the information away. Anti spyware is highly recommended if you want your computer to have the highest chance of keeping your data safe.
