My grandparents are old and living off of Medicaid. The government pays for a lot of their needs. One of the things that the government pays for is their cell phone. It is done through the free cell phones for senior citizens program. Under this program they get a free cell phone and have a limited amount of free minutes. I think that this is a great program for the elderly because they are usually too poor to afford a cell phone.

Since they have a cell phone, I can keep in touch with them and they can call people if they need help with something. For example, one time my grandmother called the hospital because my grandfather had felt chest pains. Had it not been for the cell phone, my grandfather may have died from a heart attack.  Ever since he has gotten the free phone, he has told all of his friends about this program.  He wants every one of his friends to have a phone in hand if something were to happen to them.
