The A chord is also one of the easiest chords to master and most used in pop and rock songs. The A chord can be played in more than one way but this is the basic method. Easy Guitar Lesson # 4: How To Strum Properly and Change Chords

The first three chords will now enable you to play some tunes once you learn one other step which is the strumming. For some people strumming comes naturally, while others wrestle with this skill, so be calm if it seems quite difficult initially., Strumming your guitar is a major skill to be learned over time. It is done by moving your dominant hand up and down on the strings. Always keep your hands moving. Don’t rush. Start bit by bit until you have strumming perfected. Begin slowly, then build your speed gradually once you are able to maintain a steady strum. When you are strumming properly, the chords should ring out with no buzzing (of the strings on the frets) and only play the strings of that chord shown on the chord chart. When you are alternating chords, learn the basic cords before proceding on with more difficult skills. Keep strumming each chord until you can hold an even beat. Change to each of the different chords you’ve learned before starting to strum and create the next beat. One important point to note is that you should practice your favorite songs at a slower pace or beat than they are so that you develop good habits, because once you get the hang of strumming down better, it’s extremely simple to pick up the pace later.
