Pregnancy and Exercise – should you do it?
Being pregnant is a very special experience and you want to stay healthy throughout your pregnancy.
The question as to whether you should exercise is an important one.
The first step should be to consult with your GP to check that it is safe to exercise.
In a normal healthy pregnancy exercise is to be encouraged.
The benefits of exercise during pregnancy include:
- Combats weight gain in pregnancy
- Women who exercise in pregnancy typically have shorter, easier and less complicated labour
- Exercise for posture can help to reduce back pain and muscle soreness
- Less chance of indigestion
Can you exercise all the way through the pregnancy?
YES!! As you get into your third trimester you may find you want to take things steadier but it is perfectly safe for a woman with a normal healthy pregnancy to exercise up to giving birth.
Who shouldn’t exercise when pregnant?
Mothers expecting twins
Those with a history of miscarriage
Anyone who has another medical condition your GP considers “at risk” in pregnancy
