Reasons for Looking for Replacement Engines

There are many possible reasons that people have for looking for replacement engines.
Many times a replacement engine is needed if the original engine in the vehicle has failed. Engine failure can be attributed to two main categories. The first most common cause of engine failure is simply lack of proper servicing. The second common cause of failure is damage to the engine through a secondary factor.
Proper servicing is crucial to the longevity of any engine. The best advice you can take is to shorten the times in your service manual. We have seen many different engines fail even when people service at the intervals in the service manuals. For lack of a better reason it is simply because they list the intervals as too long. If you think about it, some service manuals actual list service intervals as high as 1200 miles between oil changes. Some people don’t drive 1200 miles in an entire year. This leaves a problem, did you know that even while the vehicle is not being driven, the oil’s lubricating capabilities are deteriorating?. This is because inside of an internal combustion engine, many different chemical reactions are taking place after the engine is first started. The vehicles fuel (either petrol or diesel) slowly seeps into the crankcase, carbon builds up inside combustion chambers and circulates through the oiling system. All these different chemicals break down the oil regardless of if the engine is running or not. So even if you are not driving the vehicle you should change your oil a minimum of every 6 months to ensure the life of the engine. Otherwise a standard rule of every 3000-5000 miles should be followed. 3000 for vehicles using conventional oil and 5000 miles for those who use synthetic oil or one of the many blends available.
Now onto the second most common cause of engine failure, Damage from a secondary factor. Did you know speed bumps, light front end collisions and running over debris in the road can damage your engine?. If you go over a speed bump too quickly you can actually bottom out your engine sump and possible crack it, if it cracks you can lose your oil quickly and damage the engine. Even if the sump is steel you can dent it and restrict the amount of oil flow to the pick up screen located on the inside of the bottom of the sump. This in turn can starve your engine of oil causing it to fail. A light front collision (bumping a light pole or another vehicle) can cause coolant lines to begin to leak, once coolant leaves the cooling system, it can no longer do its intended function and the engine can overheat causing failure. Likewise with the running over debris in the road, all it takes is one pin hole leak in a oil coolant pipe or a cooling system hose and it can cause your engine to fail in a short time. That is just another reason servicing is so important. During a service the mechanic has an opportunity to look over the vehicle and make sure you don’t have any serious leaks that would cause your engine to fail.
Many times a part of the engine can fail that is normally serviceable; an example of this would be the head gasket which is a precision made component that fits between the engine block and the cylinder head forming a seal. Many times these faults are diagnosed wrongly and once the cylinder head is removed the mechanic determines it would be better to replace the engine itself rather than risk the same problem happening again in the near future.
Knowing the cause of the engine failure is very important. If you replace an engine without knowing why the original failed you run the risk of the same failure reoccurring again in the replacement engine. Many times if the fault is not found and the replacement fails from the same original problem it will not be covered under a warranty. The diagnosis of the problem is down to the mechanic you choose to perform the fitting for you.
