Charlaine Harris: Dying for Daylight is a casual hidden object adventure game which has you playing as a drop-dead-gorgeous vampire diva named Dahlia. In this vampire mythology, vamps and humans live side by side in the open, but not without tensions. Dahlia is in search of a potion that can let vampires wander outside during daylight, which can’t ordinarily be done.
If you’re not much of a reader, I’ll fill you in — Charlaine Harris is the author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, also called The Southern Vampire Mysteries. I’d recommend it to vampire fans who like a darker/romantic edge to their stories, and readers will find it similar to the True Blue vampire TV series (actually, the same producer of True Blood’s pilot is working on the pilot for the upcoming Southern Vampire pilot).
As for the game, it has good graphics and production values. It’s casual, which means it isn’t too tough to beat. You have to solve logic puzzles and inventory-based puzzles, locate objects off of a list which have been hidden in various dark and cluttered scenes, and generally progress through the story. On the whole, it’s nicely done, and what you’d expect if you play a lot of casual games like this.
If you should get stuck, there is a blog walkthrough available, which is in addition to the in-game hints.
There is a free trial of Charlaine Harris: Dying for Daylight available online at Big Fish Games and other popular casual game portals, if you’d like to try it out for yourself.
