Healthy foods don’t have to be time-consuming to prepare. Green smoothie recipes take just 5 minutes to whip up and are perfect for breakfast, a light meal, or even a snack. It is currently recommended that everyone eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. How many people actually consume that much though? With a green smoothie, you could easily consume all five servings in one meal! The best part is that you can easily adapt your green smoothie recipes to whatever you have on hand.
It is so easy to concoct your own green smoothie recipe. A green smoothie recipe consists of greens, fruit, a liquid, and an optional sweetener. I use around 3 cups of greens, 1-2 cups of fruit, and 1-2 cups of liquid for each green smoothie I make. It makes enough for breakfast as well as some extra to sip throughout the day. If you are just starting to drink green smoothies, romaine lettuce or spinach are good choices for the greens. These are mild in taste. The stronger flavored fruit will mask any flavor from the greens. You can use any fruit you like in your green smoothie. Frozen berries make a good choice. They help give the smoothie a thicker consistency. For the liquid, I use water. However, you can use water, milk, yogurt, kefir, or even fruit juice. If you want your green smoothie a little bit sweeter, add a banana, a couple of medjool dates, or a little bit of honey. The only limit to your green smoothie recipes is your own imagination.
