The 83rd Oscars night on Sunday 27th February was a much awaited. Not only to know the outcome of some very close contests in many categories. But also to watch the glamorous and gorgeous people at their best.
The winner in the major categories are:
Best picture: “The King’s Speech”
Best-actor : Colin Firth as stammering British ruler George VI in “The King’s Speech”
Best actress : Natalie Portman won for “Black Swan.”as a delusional ballerina
Supporting-acting honors : The boxing drama “The Fighter” claimed both supporting-acting honors, for Christian Bale as a boxer-turned-drug-abuser and Melissa Leo as a boxing clan’s domineering matriarch
Direction : Tom Hooper for “The King’s Speech”
Original-screenplay : David Seidler in “The King’s Speech”
Adapted screenplay : Aaron Sorkin for “The Social Network”
Technical categories: visual effects, cinematography, sound editing and sound mixing went to the sci-fi blockbuster “Inception”
Best Animated-feature : “Toy Story 3″
Foreign-language film : Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier’s “In a Better World,” a saga of two broken families that centers on two teenage boys struggling with violence at school and plotting revenge
Costume design and Art direction : The Lewis Carroll update “Alice in Wonderland”
Best documentary : “Inside Job,” an exploration of the 2008 economic meltdown
Apart from the prizes the night was dazzled with some beautiful attire of the bold and the beautiful and the hosts. There were performances while presenting the awards in the sound categories. Music Maestro A. R. Rahman performed the song from ” If we rise ” from 127 Hours. A. R. Rahman was nominated in two categories Best Original Score and Best Original Song for the same film 127 Hours.
