Hallowed Legends: Samhain is a creepy, hidden object adventure game, which is loosely influenced by Celtic lore and the pagan holiday of Samhain. The plot involves some folks who have gone missing from a Samhain (Halloween-like) festival, and it’s up to you to find them. As for the game play, it involves a combination of finding hidden objects (untimed, with recharging hints), and solving inventory puzzles in order to advance through the game. I found the graphics and production values very good, overall, and it’s pretty much of what you would expect as a fan of the genre.
I’ve been through it before, but if you haven’t caught previous posts — this is the story on Collector’s Editions. Basically, you pay a bit more, but you get bonus game play, and some extra content (like screensavers or wallpapers or music, depending on the game). Popular games that sell well in collector’s editions usually influence what new games get made, too. The cheaper and shorter version usually comes out a few weeks later, for those on a budget.
If you’d like to give it a shot, there is a free trial of the Collector’s Edition version of Hallowed Legends: Samhain available, exclusively on Big Fish Games. The budget version will be out in around two weeks time.
To play, you need to make sure that your computer meets these minimum system requirements:
* OS: Windows XP/Vista
* CPU: 1.8 GHz
* RAM: 512 MB
* DirectX: 9.0
* Hard Drive: 885 MB
And, here are a few screenshots from the game, so you get some idea:
